Having a small budget doesn’t mean that you can’t have a big party. Follow these tips to plan the ultimate party without breaking the bank.
First things first, you need to set an exact budget. It’s no good saying that you just want to “keep it cheap”. You need to be more specific. It really doesn’t matter what the figure is, what matters is writing it down and sticking to it.
You don’t need a fancy system to track your spending, a simple excel sheet will do perfectly. Itemise your spending, keep a track of the total amount spent and how much money you have left. This way you’ll never go over budget.
When planning a party on a budget, you need to be careful not to get carried away. You might want a Michelin-starred catering service, but do you really need it? Think about what’s essential and prioritise that first. Then if there’s cash to spare, you can splash out on the luxuries later.
Roll Your Sleeves Up
Parties can get super expensive if you hire caterers, venues, entertainment etc. So the best thing you can do to cut back costs is to do things yourself. Try making the food for your party if you can, and instead of hiring a DJ, make a playlist yourself or have a look on Apple Music for a pre-made one.
Apple Music is the perfect way to create a party playlist. It’s intelligent recommendation feature makes it really quick to add songs to create the perfect track list and it’s cross fade feature makes seamless song transitions. It’s only $9.99/ £9.99 per month and you can get a free 3 month trial to check it out. And don’t worry, you can use it on Android devices too!

Ask For Help
Okay, so you’ve decided not to hire any help for your party. But let’s face it there’s just not enough time to do everything yourself. That’s why you should always ask for help from friends and family. They will be more than happy to help if you are happy to return the favour. So ask everyone pitch in with food or bring some drinks, it’s one of the best ways to plan a party on a budget.
Time it Right
How long will your party last? Could you avoid lunch and dinner times? This could really help you cut the cost of food as you’ll only need to buy a few snacks.
Keep it Simple
If you don’t want to pay a small fortune for decorations and an outfit, why not have a simple theme? A classic party without a fancy dress theme can still be great, and it’ll save you plenty of cash. Still want a theme, have a look at our list of the top 20 party themes.
Ask around and see if any of your friends have any decorations and supplies you could borrow. Check out your local party supply store, or nip to the pound shop to get some decorations. You could also try having a look on Amazon or Ebay for bargain decorations and supplies.
